Making good class notes throughout the school year is so important to reduce your workload when it comes to exam season. Class notes are useful to revise from, make flashcards from and even stick up on your wall! 1. Look at the specification before your lesson, or take it to the lesson with you, this way you know the things you need to know for your exam board- then you can make notes on the important bits and not wasting time and space writing down irrelevant information (although it may be interesting, you will only be tested on certain things in the exam)
2. If your teacher has made a PowerPoint, ask them to email it to you or put it on a USB stick- this means that you can just listen and understand the content, and then make the notes at home (if you are making notes the whole lesson you may zone out and not hear other important information) 3. Use colour- this is the same for all notes! Even during lessons, make sure to take your coloured pens and highlighters as it helps to memorise information and picture it in your mind 4. When you are writing, think about the words as you are putting them down. This will help you to understand the content as you are making your notes so when you come to read them again, you are revising/reviewing them rather than reading them properly for the first time 5. Add to notes from your teacher with text books, maybe have this alongside you in the lesson, or add to the notes when you get home. This helps you make sure you’ve not missed out any important information that you need to know and you understand it in full detail 6. If you don’t understand anything whilst writing down in class, ASK straight away! This tip isn’t related to actually making the notes, but is so so important - understand everything in the lesson before going home that day- again, when you come back to revise, you will just be reviewing what you once understood which will make the process a whole lot easier 💛 All of these points have helped me to make class notes that benefit me the most- so I can revise from them throughout the year and understand the content ready for the exams. I hope they do the same for you! x
