It can become frustrating when you have made yourself a revision timetable and are trying to stick to it, and then teachers keep giving you homework to do in addition to that! Here are my tips to balance them with each other but still maximise your productivity: 1. Realise that homework is a form of revision. Your teachers want you to do well and wouldn't aimlessly set tasks for you to do, so you should realise that both are beneficial tasks! Make sure you have a good attitude to homework as well as revision and don't just skim over it, I'm sure at least one aspect of the homework will be beneficial to you long term! 2. I'm sure you've heard this a million times from teachers, but do homework as it's set! This way, it's not sat on your desk staring at you, waiting to be completed, but it's already in your folder ready to be handed in! If you are in sixth form and have free periods, I'd recommend to use these for homework. This way, you don't have to do any when you get home, and I always find it easier to do homework rather than revision in my school library, especially if it's not silent. Don't rush homework, but equally don't spend hours on it, maybe even ask your teacher how long they think a particular piece of work should take- it's good to practise exam time constraints throughout the year to get you used to it. 3. If you already have a revision timetable and are struggling to fit homework in without messing up your time slots, try and find time to do homework at a different time of day e.g. in the morning before school, on a bus/train (if suitable). Or, if your homework is on a certain topic, treat this as part of your revision for that same topic on your timetable. This way, you are not using up extra time and you are still revising all of the topics that you had planned to. 4. If your school/sixth form regularly sets a lot of homework that is taking quite a bit of time (e.g. more than 30 minutes for each piece), maybe allocate a certain evening or a whole day at weekend to do only homework so you can balance this with other forms of revision on other days. I hope these tips helped some of you as I know it can be frustrating when you are trying to stick to a timetable but get other tasks to complete! Remember, homework is not wasting time and almost always benefit you. If you really feel like homework is not benefiting you at all, maybe discuss this with your teacher to see if you can sort out something that can help you make better progress!
